Langley Park
We were given the opportunity to refurbish and extend a large detached house within the Langley Park Conservation Area. We worked with the clients to create a proposal for a full width, 8-metre extension, for a kitchen, dining room, utility room, snooker room and gym downstairs and a library, dressing room and mezzanine dressing room to the existing loft bedroom upstairs on the second floor.
Although large in size, the original house was lacking a garage and real connectivity with the garden. We had to eat into the house slightly to take create a garage but then gave them back some space by extended the kitchen/dining area out into the garden. We also redirected the staircase going up to the second floor to provide more space to accommodate the library they wanted.
The project scope involved remodelling the interior spaces, a side extension to create a garage which could be accessed directly from the house. The clients were keen to retain and showcase as much of the Edwardian features of the property, including brickwork and windows while adding simple elements of modern design like open planning layouts and glass bi-fold doors giving a visual connection right through the house and into the garden.
